In 1854, to conserve the Stilfser Joch road, the reforesting of the edges of the woods alongside the road was begun. After 1859, when Lombardy went to Italy, no more conservation work was carried out. In 1904 cycling was still forbidden between Trafoi and the Ferdinandshöhe and the district council also considered restricting motor traffic on the Stilfser Joch road, as there were very often collisions between horse-drawn carriages and mo¬tor vehicles and because many horses shied because of the noise and the increased dust caused by the cars and motor cycles. |
