Nationalpark Stilfserjoch The Stilfserjoch National Park stretches over an area of 134.620 hectars in the midst of the Central Alps. It includes the whole of the Ortler-Cevedale Massif together with the neighbouring valleys. It borders on the Swiss National Park in the north-west and is one of Europe`s largest and most interesting protected areas.The park is one of Italy`s historic National Parks. The idea of protecting this wonderful mountain area goes back to the start of the 20th century and was legally anchored in 1935. In the park can be found all types of alpine terrains from the glacier-covered high mountains (Ortler - 3905 m) to mountain pastures and steep slopes down to the valley below (Latsch - 650 m). Whitin the National Park there are also substantial wooded areas, agriculturally exploited areas and mountain farms, hamlets and villages. |
